A Pompano Beach man turned himself in to police Friday and was charged with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and DUI property damage for a car crash last year that took the life of a 7-year-old boy.
James Suppe, 47, faces charges of driving drunk in the Aug. 15, 2007 accident. Broward Sheriff's deputies said Suppe was eastbound on Atlantic Boulevard in a white Ford Explorer when he broadsided a tan Toyota 4Runner as it turned left onto Southeast Sixth Avenue from the westbound lanes.
The 4Runner's driver, Gerald Burke, 48, Pompano Beach, wasn't injured, but his son, Finn, was taken to Broward General Medical Center. He died the next day.
After deputies completed their investigation, the State Attorney's Office issued a warrant for his arrest.
